If you’ve ever wondered where Enterprise Architecture and strategy come together – I wonder if the world according to “wardley” could be a good place to start…

Have you heard of it?

Have you worked with it?

Have you totally adopted it in the way you model your organisation?

If it’s none of the above then I can highly recommended taking a look at

View at Medium.com

This morning I’ve watched a number of his videos and checked out a number of his many articles available on the web.

It’s inspired me .. when you look at his map/model/graph you can draw parallels to the world of enterprise architecture in its broadest sense .. Wardley was a CEO but he has all the attitude, aptitude of what everyone should look for in an Enterprise Architect.

His maps talk about

* customers, needs and capabilities

* agile, lean and six sigma ways of working

* pioneering a new product to commoditizing a service

* and options to consider in terms of modelling and organising your operational model

And they help challenge the root cause of the problem and reassess the initial ideas that people have for areas of change.

If you have Enterprise Architect in your job title then Wardley work really brings out the Enterprise nature of the role itself – the architect aspects may well be about designing the solution to meet the Enterprise need but the term Enterprise is far broader than just looking at the Solution itself.

I strongly recommend taking a look at the wardley work and considering the need to design along the value chain and the stage of evolution and look for business models and design solutions that are congruent with the value chain and the stage of market evolution.

I’ve yet to use the wardley modelling but am going to give it a go .. are you using it what would your advice be?
